Terms of Service

These Terms of Service govern your use of Fidel, including the website, mobile web app, course path, practice tools, account features, feedback surfaces, and optional Fidel Pro subscription. By using Fidel, creating an account, starting a lesson, submitting feedback, or purchasing Pro, you agree to these terms.

If you use Fidel for an organization, classroom, family group, or other entity, you confirm that you have permission to accept these terms for that use. If you do not agree, do not use Fidel.

Fidel is a web-first learning product for practicing Amharic. The core course path is free. Fidel Pro is optional and adds deeper practice, review, listening, pronunciation self-comparison, and progress tools. Pro does not unlock the core course.

Fidel is an educational product. Learning outcomes depend on many factors, including time spent practicing, prior exposure, and the quality of your own study routine. Fidel does not guarantee fluency, academic credit, job qualification, translation accuracy, or cultural completeness.

You are responsible for the activity on your account and for keeping your sign-in method secure. Use accurate account information and do not share account access in a way that bypasses Fidel's subscription, security, or usage limits.

You must be at least 13 years old to use Fidel on your own. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use Fidel only with permission from a parent or guardian who accepts these terms.

Fidel Pro is billed through Stripe. Prices, billing intervals, taxes, and renewal details are shown before purchase. If you subscribe, your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel before the next billing period.

You can manage or cancel Pro by signing in, opening Profile, and choosing Manage Subscription. Fidel opens Stripe Portal so you can update payment methods, view invoices, or cancel. After cancellation, Pro access remains active until the end of the current billing period, and the full course path remains free.

Fidel, its owner/operator, and its licensors own or control all rights in the Fidel service and content, including the app design, source code, software, curriculum structure, lesson sequence, exercise patterns, explanations, text, graphics, logos, names, trade dress, product flows, generated course-model audio, and licensed or human-native listening materials made available through Fidel.

Fidel grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Fidel for your own non-commercial learning. No ownership rights are transferred to you. All rights not expressly granted are reserved by Fidel and its licensors.

You may not copy, scrape, reproduce, republish, sell, sublicense, redistribute, mirror, frame, bulk download, publicly perform, publicly display, or create derivative course materials from Fidel content without written permission.

You may not use Fidel content, lesson data, prompts, audio, UI flows, exercises, feedback, or course structure to train, tune, benchmark, validate, or build machine-learning models, datasets, language-learning products, competing courses, or content libraries without written permission.

You may not reverse engineer the service, bypass access controls, interfere with billing or entitlement checks, remove copyright or trademark notices, use bots or automated collection tools, or use Fidel in a way that damages the service, other learners, or Fidel's rights.

Some Fidel experiences may include third-party services, open-source software, WAXAL or other human-native listening clips, Stripe billing flows, Firebase authentication and account infrastructure, and other licensed or hosted materials. Those materials remain owned by their respective owners and may be subject to additional terms.

You keep any rights you have in content you submit to Fidel, including feedback messages and support requests. By submitting content, you give Fidel a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, modify, process, display, and use that content to operate, protect, support, and improve Fidel.

Feedback, ideas, bug reports, and product suggestions may be used by Fidel without restriction or compensation. Do not submit material you do not have the right to share, and do not send passwords, payment card details, private keys, auth tokens, or other sensitive secrets through support or feedback forms.

Pronunciation Studio is guided self-comparison. Browser recordings stay on your device unless Fidel clearly asks for permission to upload a recording as part of a separate feature.

You agree not to misuse Fidel, attack or probe its systems, access accounts or data that are not yours, send illegal or harmful content, harass others, impersonate another person, abuse promotions, or use Fidel for unlawful activity.

Fidel may suspend or terminate access, block abusive traffic, revoke promotions, remove content, or preserve evidence when needed to protect learners, the service, payment systems, intellectual property, or legal rights.

Fidel handles account, progress, billing, feedback, waitlist, and device-context data as described in the Privacy policy. For privacy questions, email [email protected].

Fidel may add, change, pause, or remove features, lessons, Pro benefits, pricing, promotions, and content. If a change materially affects a paid subscription, Fidel will use reasonable efforts to give notice through the app, account email, billing flow, or website.

Fidel is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Fidel disclaims warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, accuracy, and uninterrupted operation.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Fidel, its owner/operator, and its service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost goodwill, service interruption, or unauthorized access arising from or related to your use of Fidel.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Fidel's total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid to Fidel in the 12 months before the claim or 100 U.S. dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Fidel, its owner/operator, service providers, and licensors from claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising from your misuse of Fidel, violation of these terms, violation of law, infringement of another person's rights, or content you submit.

You may stop using Fidel at any time. Fidel may suspend or terminate access if you violate these terms, create risk for the service, abuse a promotion, infringe intellectual property, fail to pay for Pro, or use Fidel unlawfully. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including intellectual property, restrictions, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and dispute provisions.

These terms are governed by applicable United States law and, where state law applies, the law of the U.S. state where Fidel's operator is domiciled, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. This does not limit consumer rights that cannot be waived by law.

Before filing a claim, you agree to email Fidel and give both sides a reasonable opportunity to resolve the issue informally. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be handled in a court with jurisdiction over Fidel's operator, unless applicable consumer protection law requires another forum.
